SG President Gives Annual Address
During the Friday, February 17 meeting of the Student Government Senate, SG President Greg Pollock presented his State of SG address. During the speech, Pollock touched on several areas that he is working to improve before the end of his term in May.
Pollock and SG Director of Services Robert Watson are in the process of arranging for RIT to participate in the Rochester area's Community Ride Board. The board is an online bulletin board for people in and around Rochester to post their travel plans or needs — the goal of the project is to promote car pooling and ride sharing.
The idea of the system came from the success of a similar one in the Buffalo area. Concerns were raised during the SG meeting, however, as to the safety of the program, as it is not limited solely to RIT students. The system is intended to replace the aging ride board currently located in the SAU.
Pollock also announced two major campus beautification projects. The first, a graffiti wall, will be located on the quarter mile and be open to all students to unleash their creativity upon as they choose. The second planned project is a mural to be constructed in the Campus Center (CPC, 03). These efforts are largely in response to RIT’s continuing placement on The Princeton Review’s list of the nation’s ugliest campuses.
