STREAM OF FACTS

The “Quaker Man” man who graces Quaker OATMEAL packaging is not based on any historical figure; according to a Wall Street Journal article, employees simply refer to him as “Larry.”

In August, web cartoonist “The OATMEAL” launched a crowdsourced fundraising campaign in the hopes of turning Wardenclyffe, Nikola Tesla’s former lab, into a museum. The campaign reached its $850,000 goal in approximately six days; when matched with a New York state GRANT, the campaign raised at $1.7 million in under a week.

As a child, actor Cary GRANT’s father committed his mother to a MENTAL institution, only telling him she had taken a “vacation.” He believed her dead until they were reunited decades later.

Approximately one in four American adults suffers from a MENTAL health disorder, according to the National Institute of Mental Health’s RECORDS.

According to the “Guinness Book of World RECORDS,” the world’s smallest cow is DIANA from Kerala, India. When measured in 2010, she was only 30 inches tall.

Originally conceived as a cheap handheld camera in the 1960s, the DIANA camera later became KNOWN for the lo-fi, soft focus pictures its cheap plastic lens creates.

The official prototype for the kilogram, KNOWN as “Le Grande K”, is a small metal piece that defines the kilogram’s exact weight. However, in recent DECADES, scientists have discovered that it is slowly decreasing

in weight.

In MAY 2011, New Yorker Vitaly Borker was convicted of threatening customers online in order to increase the publicity and Google ranking of his online eyeglass store, DecorMyEyes.

REPORTER RECOMMENDS: CAMSCANNER

It’s 3 a.m., and that cute guy from Fundamentals of Warcraft totally needs a copy of your notes. The library is closed, and there’s not an open scanner anywhere on campus. What do you do?

“CamScanner” is a mobile app designed to maximize your on-the-go scanning potential. While it uses your phone’s built-in camera, it includes a basic suite of image editing tools designed to significantly improve readability. These range from basic brightness, contrast and detail adjustments to a complex, perspective-based cropping tool, which allows you to normalize scans taken from awkward angles. Multiple pages can then be compiled and exported as a PDF.

“CamScanner” comes in two flavors: a limited free version and a $4.99 pro version. On Android phones, this free version is ad-supported; on the iPhone, certain scanning options are available only with a per-use charge.

While it’s hardly a replacement for a true scanner — especially in low-light conditions — “CamScanner” is the sweetest stand-in you’re bound to find.

Grab “CamScanner” on the App Store or Google Play.
